Sister Joellen Price, PBVM
In July 2007 Sr. Joellen Price, PBVM moved to Cedar Rapids to become the Pastoral Associate for Social Justice and Pastoral Care Outreach at St. Pius X Church. Before this Joellen was a music teacher in grades K-8, was the coordinator at the community’s motherhouse in Dubuque and served as a musician and liturgist in Kansas City, MO and Sioux City, IA. Following her mom’s death in which hospice care had been involved, Joellen mused about doing some pastoral care kind of ministry. She decided to take part in the Spiritual Direction Preparation Program offered in La Crosse, WI at the Franciscan Spirituality Center. She moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to this program while being involved in ministry as a Pastoral Associate.
In 2008 Joellen found herself working with the first stages of flood recovery. Pius X had a Food Pantry and supplied some financial aid among other things. The food pantry continued to grow, so the eleven Catholic parishes in the Cedar Rapids area began to work together to form the Metro Catholic Outreach. She continues to serve on the Leadership Board of MCO, Helping Hands Ministry, and the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council.
Joellen has many interests. She quilts, does various kinds of needle work, likes to cook and read as well as volunteer at Prairiewoods.
