Staff Member: Michael Becker
Michael was born and raised in a small parish community in St. Joseph, Iowa, near Algona. He attended the University of Northern Iowa and earned a Bachelor's degree in finance with an emphasis in economics. During his time at UNI, he served in ministry at St. Stephen the Witness Catholic Student Center, especially in the areas of liturgy planning and spiritual life. His involvement in the St. Stephen community planted the seed for ministry. From UNI, he explored the financial realm in Omaha, where he worked for two years in banking. At that point, he felt God calling him to discern his vocation and was accepted into the seminary in Dubuque. During two years of seminary, he earned a degree in philosophy and gained valuable experience ministering as a religious education teacher and visiting the sick. After discerning a different life path, this past year he worked at Heartland Financial in Dubuque.
Besides preparing for this new transition into ministry, Michael enjoys spending time on the golf course, frequenting the movie theaters, and playing board/card games with friends. His favorite activity, however, is catching up with friends and talking about our lives, whether that’s over dinner, ice cream, or coffee.
