Staff Member: Deacon Paul Zimmerman
Deacon Paul Zimmerman
I was born and raised in Dubuque, attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Wahlert High School. There I met my wife, Donna, and we were married in 1965. I entered the US Navy in 1964 working as an electronics technician on airborne sonar. After being discharged, Donna and I moved to Cedar Rapids and I worked at Collins Radio and Square D Company before retiring from Van Meter Inc. as Director of Quality in 2006. We have two children and four grandchildren. We joined St. Pius in 1968. I taught Religious Education and then worked with the Confirmation program and adult education. In 1979, I was accepted into the Diaconate formation program and was ordained in May of 1984 and assigned to St. Pius. In 1983, Deacon Al and I started taking communion to Northbrook Care Center and also started doing a monthly prayer service there. I have been involved with the RCIA program for 30 years and am an “On Call Chaplain” at Mercy Hospital. I preside at weddings, baptisms and funerals outside of Mass.
